Job Search

Preparing for a successful job search takes planning. If you are serious about landing your dream job, then you must be ready for your search. There are three main aspects in a successful job search. These are being aware of your goals, understanding the labor market and planning your job search campaign correctly. You should begin planning your job search at least six months before you want to begin working. This gives you optimal time to locate, interview and get your job.

By determining your values, skills and goals, you gain an awareness of what you really want and know more about what you are really good at doing. Anything that you do well is considered a skill. If you have a pleasant phone voice then this is your skill. You should recognize your personal skills and write them down. Using this list, you can communicate your skills to your prospective employer. Write them on your resume, as well. When you are speaking to a prospective employer, be sure to reiterate your skills list.

Another excellent way to ensure a successful job search is to do your homework. Research the field that you are interested in and explore all career options within that field. If you want to teach, then explore teaching abroad or teaching college. Anything that deals directly with your career choice should be researched and explored. You might consider applying for internships or summer jobs in a field related to your career choice.
Once you have chosen your career field then you should seek out employers who offer jobs in this area. At this point you might consider meeting with a career counselor in your area to determine the best method of finding a job in your target career field. Doing research on prospective employers is also highly recommended. This not only gives you an upper hand during the interview by knowing a bit about the company, it helps you to determine if this company is somewhere you would be happy in working.

You should be persistent when you are pursuing your dream job. Employers will give a polite “thank you” and expect you to find employment elsewhere. Be persistent. If you know that you would be a great asset to a specific company then let them know that and tell them why you would benefit their company. Having confidence is the best way to win over skeptic employers.
